PERUVIAN ECOLODGES HELPING THE AMAZON

Seeing the world by bicycle is sustainable, low-impact travel, arguably at its best! But even off the bikes, there's always something else that can be done to make our adventures more positive for the planet. On Biking Peru From The Andes To The Amazon, we'll overnight at two Peruvian ecolodges dedicated to protecting the Amazon, the world's largest rainforest and one of its most biodiverse places.

Both ecolodges are active research stations and conservation centers, complete with cosy accommodations for travelers wanting to experience a night's stay in the Peruvian wilderness – read more below!

WAYQECHA CLOUD FOREST RESEARCH STATION

Located at the edges of Manu National Park, Wayqecha Cloud Forest Research Station is an environmental research station studying cloud forest ecology and protecting the Amazon forests. Over the past two decades, the Wayqecha Cloud Forest Research Station has played a key part in:

• Various efforts, projects, and initiatives protecting over 8.15 million acres of Amazonian rainforest.

• Helping to provide cutting-edge tools needed by government and forest users to protect their lands.

• Empowering hundreds of indigenous communities towards adopting forest-friendly livelihoods.

• Hosting thousands of scientists who have pioneered innovative research into the Amazon.

But besides the ongoing research, the station also hosts travelers with a few tucked-away cabins that boast amazing views of the clouds rolling across the Andes. On Biking Peru From The Andes To The Amazon, we spend our trip's third night here surrounded by the pristine nature and awesome views of this mist-laden ecosystem. Earnings do (of course!) go back towards supporting their mission to save the Amazon.
