Italy needs no introduction as a cycling destination. From the rolling hills of Tuscany, the jagged peaks of the Dolomites, or the stunning Amalfi Coast, La Bella Italia is no stranger to welcoming riders from around the world. But a new era of Italian cycling holidays is emerging: one which takes us to further flung regions away from the crowds, connects us with sustainability-minded locals and their homegrown products, and plunges us into a world of gravel roads and dreamy vistas.
There probably isn't a more beautiful word for a gravel road than the Italian 'strada bianca', i.e. white road. These chalky paths pop out of the vineyard-covered rolling hills, providing an endless theater of gravel riding fun. While the network of strade bianche in Tuscany have become world-famous (and rightfully so!), there are still plenty of undiscovered stretches; some of our favorites being in the countryside of Umbria and Marche.
Italian also has a delightful word for the concept of an immersive farm stay: agriturismo. On our Italy tours we overnight in several agriturismi, ranging from rustic to upscale, as we cycle through the picturesque countryside. Besides a good night's rest surrounded by rural bliss, you can expect locally produced wines and home-cooked cuisine.
Fun fact: Italy boasts the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, with 59 sites ranging from ancient ruins and historic city centers to stunning natural landscapes.
We can tailor make your adventure exactly how you want it. Whether it's tweaking an existing itinerary, booking a standard tour on a different date, or creating your own unique one!
