About this Cycle Tour

Gravel riding paired with local experiences and fresh cuisine paired with local wines – that’s what this tour is all about! From the Apennine Mountains to the Adriatic Coast, we cycle on 'strade bianche'' – chalk white gravel roads – through the lesser-known corners of the Marche region in Central Italy. Our days are filled with scenic rides, experiential excursions and gastronomic delights, and we unwind each night in cozy hotels and charming agriturismi (farm stays).

Meeting in Fabriano, we begin with a paper-making workshop to discover why this town is known as Italy’s “City of Paper.” Crossing the rugged Apennines, we head towards Montecarotto, where we swap our cycling gear for an apiary outfit to become beekeepers for an afternoon. We then ride through an endless sea of vineyards and olive groves, meeting passionate locals and learning about the production of olive oil and natural wines from seed to shelf. The final chapter takes us through Marche’s ‘Land of Castles', where fortified medieval villages crown the hilltops, before arriving at the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea. The tour ends in the historic coastal town of Sirolo

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Fabriano, Italy’s famed ‘City of Paper’, located in the Apennine Mountains of western Marche. In the afternoon, we gather for a trip briefing and welcome dinner.

Day 2

In Fabriano we participate in a paper-making workshop before beginning our ride through the Apennines. We cycle through the rugged mountains, visit an abandoned village, relax in a hidden river gorge, and hike up to an ancient hermitage built inside a cave.

Day 3

We tackle a climb to Mount Murano for terrific views over the Apennines and the rolling hills of Marche. In the afternoon, we immerse ourselves in the world of organic beekeeping before riding through the beautiful wine country of Montecarotto.

Day 4

We ride through the rustic hillscape of the Marche countryside. Filled with olive groves and vineyards, we’ll zoom in on these two industries through a visit to a family-run olive farm and an agriturismo producing natural wines.

Day 5

We head into the Terra dei Castelli, Marche’s “Land of Castles”, to discover the historic, fortified hilltop villages of Polverigi and Offagna.

Day 6

Our final ride takes us to the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea where we spend the night in the historic coastal town of Sirolo. The afternoon is free to relax by the beach or explore Conero Regional Park.
