About this Cycle Tour

Embark on a journey through the lesser-known regions of southern Poland and northern Slovakia and delve into the heart of the Carpathian Mountain Range. Over 8 days, we transition from Krakow and the rolling hills of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship to Slovakia’s castle-studded Spis region and the snow-capped peaks of the High Tatras. While the rides offer diverse challenges, the pace remains unhurried, allowing ample time to explore heritage sites, enjoy scenic hikes, unwind in old town squares, and savor wholesome meals.

Meeting in Krakow, the first stage of the adventure takes us through the Polish countryside of the Carpathian foothills and past the densely forested Gorce and Pieniny National Parks. Crossing into Slovakia via a pedestrian and bicycle-only path along the Dunajec River gorge, we venture onwards to spend two nights in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic town of Levoca. Here, we immerse ourselves in the captivating history of the Spis region, with a highlight being Spissky hrad, Slovakia’s largest castle and a medieval ruin to the nth degree! The tour’s final leg brings us into the High Tatras, Slovakia’s tallest mountain range and the crown jewel of the Carpathians. We bike against the backdrop of towering granite peaks and relax at a classic Slovakian wellness hotel on the shores of Strbske Pleso, a picturesque montane lake. The tour ends in Strbske Pleso.

Join us on this Central European bike tour designed for the intrepid soul!

We meet at our tour hotel in Krakow for a trip briefing and welcome dinner.

Day 2

From Krakow we ride through the countryside of southern Poland to reach Dobczyce, with its ruins of a medieval castle overlooking a lake. Then we enter the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and spend the night in Mszana Dolna, a charming Polish town hardly known to tourists.

Day 3

We ascend the slopes of the Gorce Mountains on a mix of rural roads and forest paths. Then it’s downhill into the Dunajec River Valley to reach the town of Szczawnica. In the afternoon you can take a chairlift up to Palenica Peak or head to Lake Czorsztyn by bike.

We cross into Slovakia via a pedestrian and bicycle-only path in a gorge of the Pieniny Mountains. An undulating ride through Slovakia’s Spis region then takes us to Levoca, a historic town renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed medieval and Renaissance architecture.

Day 5

A 30 km loop from Levoca takes us to Spissky hrad, one of Central Europe’s largest medieval castle ruins. Explore this UNESCO-listed fortress as well as the nearby ecclesiastical town of Spisska Kapitula, the ‘Slovak Vatican’.

Following a route skirting the edges of Slovak Paradise National Park and leading through the historic city of Poprad, we reach the montane lake of Strbske Pleso in the High Tatras Mountains. We spend two nights here at a classic Slovakian hotel.
