About this Cycle Tour

This is Thailand’s most popular road cycling journey, and for good reason! There’s nothing quite like gliding along excellently paved roads that snake past tropical shorelines, savoring delicious Thai cuisine, and enjoying the world-renowned hospitality of the Land of Smiles. From the coconut groves and sandy beaches along the Gulf of Thailand to the rugged headlands and bustling fishing ports of the Andaman Coast, road cycling from Bangkok to Phuket is a journey you’ll want to experience again and again – just as many SpiceRoads riders already have!

We meet in Bangkok and whisk ourselves away to the coastal area of Khlong Khon. A warm-up ride takes us through a patchwork of salt pans and aquaculture farms, leading us to the bustling beach town of Hua Hin. From there, we ride south along the Gulf of Thailand coastline, passing the limestone cliffs of Sam Roi Yot National Park and hopping from one scenic bay to the next before resting at a beachside hotel in Baan Grood. The next leg of the tour takes us through endless coconut groves and oil palm plantations before crossing the hilly Isthmus of Kra to the Andaman Sea. Now on Thailand’s rugged west coast, we head inland through the agrarian hinterlands of Ranong and Phang Nga provinces. We pause to soak in the Old-World charm of Takua Pa, a historic tin-mining town, and arrive at the sun-kissed sands of Khao Lak Beach. A final zip down the Andaman Coast leads us to Phuket, Thailand’s premier island destination. The tour ends in Phuket.

Join us on this classic road cycling journey from Bangkok to Phuket, where cyclists come for the challenge and fall in love with the charm of Thailand’s coasts!

Itinerary

Day 1

We transfer 2-hours outside of Bangkok and start our coastal ride through a patchwork of salt pans and aquaculture farms. After lunch we transfer to the bustling beach town of Hua Hin where we stay at an elegant resort.

Day 2

We cycle from Hua Hin into Sam Roi Yot National Park, riding below towering limestone peaks that dominate the landscape. Then, we head back along the coast, and ride parallel with railroad tracks, eventually reaching the stunningly blue waters of the Bay of Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Day 3

Much of today’s route is lined by expansive coconut and palm oil plantations, a clear sign that we are nearing the south of Thailand! Our ride ends at the golden sands of Baan Grood.

Day 4

Today is a rest day at our seaside resort in Baan Grood.

Day 5

Today’s route traverses Thailand’s narrowest geographic point, riding along the coast and through a seemingly endless world of coconut and palm oil plantations. We cover over a 100 km but we’ll be rewarded with another secluded and quiet beach retreat to end the day.

Day 6

We cross the Isthmus of Kra, which separates the Gulf of Thailand to the east from the Andaman Sea to the west. As the longest day of the tour, we maintain a steady pace accompanied by views of jungle-clad mountains before arriving in the city of Ranong.

Day 7

We head south along the main provincial throughway, traversing the foothills of the Tenasserim Range. Our route showcases rural life on the Andaman Coast as we make our way to the very south of Ranong Province.

Day 8

We continue our journey south through the rolling hills and expansive farmlands of Phang Nga Province. After exploring the historic tin-mining hub of Takua Pa, we take back roads that lead us to the sun-kissed beaches of Khao Lak.

Day 9

We depart from Khao Lak and make a stop at a museum dedicated to the impact of the 2004 tsunami. Our ride then takes us over scenic headlands, rolling hills, and along picturesque shorelines before making the iconic crossing over the Sarasin Bridge to the island of Phuket.

Day 10

Our tour has come to an end, but feel free to extend your stay on Phuket.

Reviews

A fantastic way to see Thailand, you get to cycle in areas you would not normally visit as a tourist and get to eat in very local restaurants. Our guide Natt and van driver Suwat were amazing, you couldn't improve on the help and service they provided to our group. I will definitely book another tour with SpiceRoads.

I had a beautiful biking trip in Thailand on Spice Roads. Our guide and driver were extremely accommodating. I felt very pampered plus the riding was very scenic and challenging. I am looking forward to my next trip with Spice Roads.

Fantastic experience. We have done everything from self-guided trips to custom Backroads and this perfect for us; lovely/clean accommodations w/o being unnecessarily over the top for a cycling trip. Guides and support were top notch. Would definitely do it again.
