FLOATING MARKET - HUA HIN EXPLORER
Seventy kilometers south west of Bangkok the Mae Klong River spreads into a sprawling delta before reaching the Gulf of Thailand. This low-lying land is extremely fertile and over hundreds of years the Thai people have constructed an extensive network of canals to aid irrigation and navigation, and the starting point for our exploration of the central southern part of Thailand. Mixing all different kinds of terrain and locations this trip is a great way to see and experience the other side of Thailand.
This tour is a great introduction to Thailand, as we visit one of the more famous floating markets. On this ride, you will see many temples, and plantations that produce all manner of fruits.
You will really get off the beaten track as the tour heads further south and inland towards Burma. This often missed area on the way to the more well known Hua Hin is a great place to cycle and relax as the roads and trails are virtually traffic free and the scenery is wonderful.
Enjoy an excellent ride along the Pranburi coast just south of Hua Hin. The ride will give you an insight as to the local industries that abound in this area.
TRIP PROFILE
This tour follows a wide range of trails, including quiet back roads, jeep trails with a few small hills but nothing too strenuous or taxing. Days 1 and 3 of the tour are relatively undemanding as it is flat but day 2 is a little harder due to some small hills.
We ride as a group, with experienced SpiceRoads cycle guides setting an even pace and stop often to visit points of interest and sample some of the local food. Our support vehicle follows close behind with plenty of water. Our guides are knowledgeable on the local area and customs and explain the history, culture and local way-of-life each time we stop.

Floating Market to Hua Hin, May 2010

The cycling through the beautiful landscape was superb, perfect choice of the routing, excellent restaurants and food and the accommodation is chosen very carefully.
Ted an Charly took really good care of us and we were spoiled with food, drinks and good company throughout the tour.
The day trips were manageable and my aunt was extremely pleased that she could make up the speed to her comfort.
We really had a great time!

Floating Market to Hua Hin, January 2010

There are lots of reasons why it was so good.
For example, the distances were about right, the countryside was fantastic, the hotels were interesting and different (one was luxurious and the other simpler and therefore more interesting), the food was good, and I could list more things.
However, what really made the trip was the friendliness and attitude of the guide and driver.
They never once tired of our stupid questions and showed us so much of the real life in the country that it meant we had some nice exercise and brand new insights into what is; for us; a completely different world.
All in all, it was great!

A special thanks goes to our Guide, Num. He made this trip extraordinary! Really! I don't know if you know how much difference a guide makes... We had some during our trip to Thailand. Mostly very good, but none of them were like Num!
He made us try food we wouldn't have tried without him. He told us so much about country, life and Buddhism. It was gorgeous!! He ordered very different food at any meal-time. Real thai-food not the very often offered european-style - which was great for us!
Really it was a trip to remember!
