BANGKOK OF OLD
Our Bangkok of Old tour explores several districts along Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River and lets you experience the serene way of life in the old Bangkok communities.

What will we see? We begin by exploring Bangkok Noi Canal and the Thonburi Locomotive Depot before cycling quiet back alleyways to visit Baan Bu community. On the way we stop at two fascinating temples - Wat Suwannaram was founded in the Ayutthaya period (12th and 13th century) and was formerly the site of the Royal Cremation Ground for members of the Royal Family and high-raking officers until the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910 A.D.); and Wat Sri Sudaram which was built in the period of King Rama I (1782-1809 A.D.) as a memorial of his sister.
From here we continue cycling on country lanes, allowing you to experience the natural surroundings and the Thai way of life along the canals, to one of the many floating markets* in the area, Taling Chan. A short hop away we stop at the second floating market, Wat Saphan, a newer market situated next to Bangkok Noi canal. Keeping the best for the last, we cycle to visit Lad Ma Yom canal where we have a chance to rest and replenish those energy levels by tasting the local home made ice cream. We finish the trip by taking a long tail boat to explore the local canals, fruit orchards and small communities that abound and give the area its very essence.
What is the riding like? We ride about 30 kilometers in total along very minor roads, pathways, through alleys, temples and villages. There are no hills. Some of the canal paths are elevated and narrow and we advise caution on these sections, but otherwise it is a leisurely, enjoyable and pleasant easy ride.
Anything else? Lunch is typical ThaI dish noodles served at a local restaurant and the ride ends with a boat ride* down local canals before driving back to Bangkok.
Of course, water, soft drinks, snacks and lunch are included during the tour and SpiceRoads supplies a TREK mountain bike and helmet. The trip is fully supported by our air conditioned minibus, fully equipped with a two-way radio.
*The floating markets are open only on weekends and some public holidays.
