SAIGON TO BANGKOK

This tour takes in three of South East Asia's most diverse and fascinating countries. Commencing in Saigon we head into Vietnam's rice bowl and the Mekong Delta. This fascinating area is flat and lush and is quite unlike anywhere else in Vietnam. At mix of Khmer and Vietnamese people make this a diverse and interesting region to explore.

Saigon to Bangkok Cycling

Our entry into Cambodia is by boat as we head up one of Asia's great rivers, the Mekong, to Phnom Penh. Enjoy the French colonial charms of Phnom Penh before cycling on to Kampong Chhang where we board boats and cross the Tonle Sap to reach the breathtaking temples of Angkor Wat.

One of the highlights is, of course, riding amongst a thousand years of history at Angkor and we explore the extraordinary temple complexes.

After the wonders of Angkor we head to the faded colonial city of Battembang. This sleepy backwater city is well worth a visit and we arrive in time to explore. We are now just a short distance to Thailand.

We cross into Thailand at a small immigration point nestled in the small mountains that separate Thailand from Cambodia. We then ride the short way to the main road where we transfer to the beach and a well earned rest.

A truly great tour through the heart of Southeast Asia.

TRIP PROFILE

We ride just over 550km on road surfaces that are mixed. Most of the riding in all three countries is on flat terrain through interesting countryside.

We ride a combination of good quality tarmac, wide dirt tracks and broken roads that are sometimes badly potholed but easily navigable by bike. Although we cover some long distances we usually only ride for four or five hours a day. There is a lot to see along the way as we ride alongside rivers and rice fields.

We spend three days travelling by boat for a bit of variety and a chance for weary legs to recover.

Experienced riders will find the distances long enough to challenge them, while less experienced riders are easily able to travel at a more relaxed pace.

Saigon to Bangkok Tour, December 2009

We laughed all the way between Saigon and Bangkok. There is no better way to see the country than by bike. It would take you weeks to find your way in and out of the Mekong Delta along all those tiny jungle trails.

A great group from 6 different countries. Everyone loved it and weeks afterwards we are still emailing pictures to and from. I can't wait to get back on another tour possibly North Vietnam and Laos. Although I really fancy Bhutan. So much to do so little time.

Saigon to Bangkok Tour, February 2009

A very enjoyable tour, we definitely got our money's worth.

Cycling through the Mekong delta region on those wonderful cement paths was just terrific. Swimming (and eating) at Rabbit Island was a great way to end our tour.

Many thanks to Spice Roads for giving us a lot of fantastic memories.

Saigon to Bangkok Tour, December 2008

What a perfect way to see Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Our guides (Tung and Sna) were fantastic and so helpful in providing insight to their respective country and culture.

The remainder of my time in that region paled in comparison to the time I spent on the bike tour.

The tour schedule was a nice pace. I'm not a "biker" but thankfully the rides were not too difficult and our guides and drivers were always helpful when the roads or heat became too much for us to handle.

Thank you again for a trip I will never forget.
