BANGKOK TO ANGKOR WAT

Starting with a transfer to the foot hills of the Cardamon mountains, we spend a night in Thailand before crossing the border. Once we cross the sleepy border we ride into the Khmer heartland to explore rural Cambodia. Discover the fading colonial outpost of Battambang and journey by boat across the Tonle Sap (Great Lake), which is the beating heart of agricultural Cambodia.

Bangkok to Angkor Wat Cycling

The highlight is, of course, riding amongst a thousand years of history at Angkor and we take three full days to explore the extraordinary temple complexes and surrounding areas before we bid farewell this breathtaking collection of temples and the very friendly Cambodian people.

TRIP PROFILE

We ride approximately 300 km (a number of rides are optional) a mixture of tarmac roads in reasonable repair and on hard packed dirt trails. Some of the rides at the start have some small undulations but most of the rides are on flat terrain. The rides are varied as we pass through some agricultural areas before we get to the splendors of Angkor Wat.

The traffic on this tour is light and we often share the roads with ox carts and other cyclists who carry an amazing range of products on their bikes. The trip is point-to-point and fully supported: a minibus(es) follows the tour group for the entire journey. The cycling distances are easily managed on this ride (except day 3) and the tour is suitable for cyclist of all levels.

As we have cycling guides to help lead the way riders can find their own pace and stop, take pictures, and interact with the locals.

I loved it.

We had such a great time riding through the Cambdian landscape with great people, guides and drivers that we can't wait until we can join SpiceRoads again.

~Craig & Meg Teasdell Bangkok to Angkor Wat Tour, January 2010

We were delighted with the ride in every respect. You change guides, vans, drivers, even bikes at the Thai/Cambodian border, so we had the chance to check out both crews -- and both were terrific. I do hope to travel with SpiceRoads again - you are a wonderful company and everyone is so lovely, friendly and helpful.

I had a fantastic time, loved every minute, even with the sweat pouring into my eyes. I would, and have been recommending SpiceRoads to friends and family.
